After our strongest set of election results ever, the Liberal Democrats are BACK as a national force.
At the General Election, the Liberal Democrats won 72 MPs, more than ever before. We will now form the largest opposition to broken two-party politics in the House of Commons.
Our MPs are straight to work calling for cross-party talks to fix the crisis in the social care system, and an emergency Health & Care budget to rescue the NHS after years of neglect.
Party leader Sir Ed Davey said “We will be the champions of the NHS, care and the environment, which have been left in a state of crisis by the Conservatives.”
"I am humbled to be leading the largest third party in a century. Millions of people have put their trust in the Liberal Democrats. We will not let them down.”
Here in Kensington & Chelsea, the Liberal Democrats retained our position as the strongest challengers to the broken two-party system that has let our area down for so many decades.
In a joint statement, our two local Parliamentary Candidates Blaise Baquiche and William Houngbo thanked their thousands of voters for their support and urged people to join the Liberal Democrats.
"To our thousands of supporters, we want to express our absolute gratitude and heartfelt appreciation. Whilst we didn't get the result we wanted this time in Kensington & Bayswater or Chelsea & Fulham, we performed strongly and reminded everyone that there is a home for them that is not the broken party system we have gotten used to.
"What's more - to all our supporters and anyone reading this; there has never been a better time to join the Liberal Democrats.
"You probably already share our values.
"Reforming our politics with a fair voting system, devolving power to regions & communities and reestablishing integrity & decency in public life.
"Protecting our rights and liberties against unaccountable power - whether it stems from the public or private sector, or indeed beyond.
"Giving everyone the security to live a good life and the opportunity to live their best one - believing that investing in our people, and fostering human flourishing, is the most important mission of public service.
"And standing up for these values on the world stage - fighting for the dignity, rights and opportunities of persecuted people everywhere. We seek to do all of this with our international partners, starting by resetting our broken relationship with Europe by putting us back on a path to rejoin the European Single Market.
"These values are the cornerstone of Liberal belief - and are nowhere else represented in one place like they are in the Liberal Democrats. That's why we exist, and why thousands of people across the U.K. are members of our party.
