Stop Selling Housing Association Homes!
Housing Associations provide 70% of the Council’s housing needs. Unfortunately, many of these homes are being sold off due to high renovation costs. Liberal Democrats are calling on the Council to act.
Many of the people the Council has a duty of care to are in Temporary Housing outside the borough, away from their networks, and their families. So, it is saddening to hear of several flats being sold by Housing Associations due to Financial Viability Assessments on the refurbishment of properties which need to be brought up to present day standards and regulations.
The Liberal Democrat team are proposing that the Council should be part of the Financial Viability Assessment and, if necessary, match fund the costs to make sure that Housing Association homes remain availible for the residents that need them.
Not only would this improve the social housing stock in our borough and allow tenants to remain close to their networks and families, but it would also reduce the costs of temporary housing.
Stop Housing Association Sales
Kensington & Chelsea Liberal Democrats are calling on the Council to work with Housing Associations to prevent further sales of social housing stock in the borough.
